The Real Struggles MBA Students Face While Completing Their Projects

When I first started my MBA project I believed it would be easy. Select a subject, do some research, write it out and then submit. Easy. I had envisioned doing it in only a few months, with a few late nights prior to the deadline. The reality hit quickly. The project is not just reports. It tests your strategy, patience and ability to deal with unexpected issues. In my class, almost everyone struggled in some way.

Many students believe that they should consider the project just like regular assignments or case studies. Weeks later they realize that deadlines are a bit closer than they had hoped but the data is not in order, chapters don’t connect, and motivation is waning. The IGNOU MBA final project project could become overwhelming in the event that you fail to manage it properly.

This article will highlight the issues that students face and the best ways to deal with them. There isn’t any magic formula however learning from mistakes helps immensely.

Choosing a Topic Is Harder Than It Looks

A topic could seem simple, but it’s not. I made the error of choosing a subject that sounded impressive but was impossible to accomplish. For weeks, I tried to collect data from companies that never replied. My classmates would pick trendy subjects without even considering how much data was available. The result is similar. You waste weeks and feel frustrated.

A practical topic is better than a flashy one. It should fit your budget and passion. For instance, Instead of “The Future of Marketing in India” opt for “Social Media Marketing Strategies in Local Retail Stores.” It’s specific, the data can be collected more easily and the objectives are clear.

Objectives Are More Important Than You Think

Your objectives guide your entire project. Numerous students do the error of composing vague objectives like “To study the impact of leadership on productivity.” That’s not a good idea. My own objectives had to be revised numerous times in order to make them quantifiable and precise.

Defined objectives aid in choosing what method to use, how data is collected and analysis. If your goals aren’t strong, your project feels unconnected. I’ve learned how to ask myself what exactly I’m trying to gauge and how I will know if my efforts are successful. These questions make a massive difference in the level of work.

Collecting and Analysing Data Is Painful

Data collection is where most students struggle. I have spent hours contacting small-scale businesses to ask for surveys. Some ignored me completely and others promised answers that did not materialize. Surveys online are helpful, but the responses are usually not complete.

Analysis is an additional challenge. It is possible to have flawless charts and tables however if you’re unable to explain what they mean, they’re useless. I have seen students copy graphs, without understanding. These numbers do not support anything unless you clarify them.

A suggestion is to take a test run of the survey with a small group of individuals first. This can help identify difficult questions as well as avoids the waste of time. Always connect your analysis to the goals. In the case of a project that analyzes customer satisfaction, be sure the questionnaire includes measurable questions regarding the quality of service, product reliability and response time.

Time Management Is Tough

Time management is vital but in MBA it’s more difficult than it might sound. Between lectures, group projects assignment and internships there is plenty of time. I put off chapters hoping I could complete in a couple of days. Days later, I was panicking.

The task can be broken down into smaller steps can help. Divide the project into literature review methods, data collection, analysis and writing chapters for each. Begin to track small improvements each week. The idea of having a chapter or section done each week is motivating.

Writing Is Harder Than You Think

Even with a data-ready writing can be a struggle. I had difficulty explaining the results in plain English. Some parts felt repetitive. I revised the analysis chapter numerous times.

Make the language easy and understandable. Consider having your friends read the sections. Sometimes, getting caught up in the work you are doing makes it difficult to notice errors. Fresh eyes help a lot.

Supervisors Can Be Helpful But Also Frustrating

Being a supervisor is difficult. Certain supervisors provide clear guidelines while others can be vague or difficult to understand. It took me 2 weeks to get the response but it took a while to complete my progress.

The key is to be proactive. Plan specific questions, make sure to follow up with respect and document feedback. Supervisors are helpful but you must to own your own project.

Formatting and References Matter

I didn’t pay attention to formatting initially. Fonts, spacing, certificates. I thought that I could rectify them later. Big mistake. It could have delayed the submission.

References are equally crucial. One missing citation can raise questions. Use tools to manage references, and you can do it while creating chapters instead of waiting until the final. A properly formatted project is easy to understand and makes it appear more professional.

Stress Is Real

Stress is unavoidable. Deadlines, corrections and unfinished data can be a burden. One night I was staring at the computer screen, feeling as if I’d never finish.

Short breaks help. Talking to friends, going for a walk, listening to music. Reward small successes. Achieving a completed literature review or your data collection is a milestone. They maintain motivation.

Ethical Confusion

Many students are confused as to what kind of help is allowed. It is possible to seek guidance but cannot have someone create your assignment. Ethical guidance includes feedback on the structure, methodology, and clarity. The original work is yours to keep.

Asking for guidance does not mean cheating. It is prudent to use available resources. Students are expected to find help when they’re stuck.

Reviewing Your Work

I decided to focus on the chapters one at a time at first. Later, I realized that the whole project as a whole had repetitions with inconsistent terminology and a lack of hyperlinks. The project’s comprehensive review reveals many gaps. Imagine yourself as the examiner. You’ll find mistakes you could have missed.

Procrastination Destroys Quality

Reducing work time is a huge problem. I was thinking I could complete the data analysis and write in a couple of nights. That didn’t work. Each delay degraded quality.

Begin early. Just one paragraph or section every day adds to. The project is now easily manageable and not overwhelming.

What I Learned

The MBA task isn’t a difficult one because of the complexity. It’s difficult because students don’t have enough planning, clarity or guidance. The chances of making mistakes are common. The trick is to learn and keep moving forward.

Being organized is good, but flexibility is more important. Things don’t always go according to plan. Some information may be missing the supervisor will not be forthcoming delays, and hurdles will come up. It’s about how you tackle these problems. Break the task into pieces each step, concentrate on a single step one at a while, and be sure to keep reasonable expectations.

Projects are a way to teach students skills beyond academics. Time management, discipline in research clarity in writing, problem solving are skills which are still relevant in professional life. The project can be stressful, but it is also practical.

Closing Thoughts

If you’re about to start your MBA project pick a topic it is possible to research. Establish clear goals. You can plan small steps. If you require help, ask for it. Pause for breaks. Keep your writing simple. Avoid chasing perfection. Start early.

The MBA project will be more than just a document. It tests patience, planning and problem solving. It will be a struggle. Everyone does. However, every battle teaches us something. In the end, the assignment does not just get submitted. It helps you become an undergraduate, researcher or a possible professional.
